🏛️ Historic Landmark — Renovation of the Revolutionary Leader’s Statue
In Puduppattinam Panchayat, located within Kalpakkam Municipality of Chengalpattu District, the statue of Bharat Ratna Dr. M.G. Ramachandran (M.G.R) — the beloved revolutionary leader of Tamil Nadu — has been deteriorating due to years of poor maintenance.
To address this issue and restore due respect to the late leader’s legacy, Member of Parliament Dr. M. Dhanapal personally visited the site on September 29, 2025.
During his visit, he conducted a detailed inspection in coordination with the Kalpakkam GSO administrative officers. After assessing the condition, Dr. Dhanapal proposed removing the existing cement statue and installing a new, beautifully designed bronze statue.
He also instructed officials to initiate the required administrative steps immediately to implement the renovation project.
🗣️ “M.G.R. will forever remain in the hearts of Tamil people. His statue will stand as a historic monument remembered for generations,” said Dr. M. Dhanapal.
💡 Modern LED Streetlights for Public Convenience
As part of this broader Puduppattinam development initiative, discussions were held regarding the old high-mast streetlights on Puduppattinam Bazaar Street, which have stopped functioning properly and caused difficulties for commuters at night.
To improve safety and convenience, the following proposals were made:
- Replacement of old, damaged lights
- Installation of energy-efficient modern LED streetlights using the latest technology
- Enhancement of street safety and night visibility
Additionally, Panchayat President Dr. Gayathri Dhanapal requested 24-hour uninterrupted power supply for the high-mast lights near the Ice Cap area and the MP’s office, ensuring continuous lighting for key public zones.
Initial consultations with the Kalpakkam Electricity Department have begun to plan for the necessary equipment and power distribution arrangements.

The development review event saw participation from:
- Mr. S. Arumugam, District Secretary, Tirukazhukundram
- Former Panchayat Presidents
- Union-level party secretaries
- Panchayat representatives and party administrators

Dr. M. Dhanapal personally interacted with villagers and listened to their requests. He assured that these developmental projects will continue until Puduppattinam becomes a model panchayat.
